Rocher du Lion
The Îlot du Lion was a remarkable coastal rock formation rising about 17 metres above sea level. Its unusual shape resembled a resting lion when viewed from a particular angle, giving the landmark its name. Known historically as the Rocher du Lion or Sidi Esayd, it was reportedly destroyed in 1917, leaving behind a fascinating part of Annaba's coastal heritage. A lot of historical searching resulted in the correct placement on a map, correcting the handful of sources even talking about it. The location of the island is where the northern part of the harbour of Annaba ended, see images.
