Westward Island
Tucked into the southwestern corner of Ducie Atoll's perimeter, Westward Island is a diminutive, uninhabited speck of dry ground within the isolated British Overseas Territory of the Pitcairn Islands. Positioned directly west of Pandora Islet and south of Acadia’s sweeping arc, this tiny motu guards the calm inner lagoon against the vast expanse of the open South Pacific. The islet derives its name from the Westward, an American scientific expedition vessel that anchored off the atoll’s treacherous outer reef during a 1935 survey.
